Hi, I need to know what the object limit is.

Like sometimes when you create too many units, it says that you've reached the file limit...

What is this number? Is it four different numbers, one for each side? Do galaxites and trees or terrain count?

Thanks in advance.

Sincerely,
A soul in need of the unit limit knowledge
...that you've reached the file limit...
Sorry, I meant the 'unit' limit.

Sincerely,
a person who makes many mistakes

I'll post that info in a week or so. Sorry for the delay, I'm on a trip at the moment typing this from a treo 600 :)

For single player missions, unit limits are split between the human player and all computer players. Here are the limits:

- human buildings: 39
- human mobile units: 60
- computer buildings: 52
- computer mobile units: 80
- scenery: 100

In addition there is a special rule where the human side can use the un-used computer building capacity (minus 5). In other words, if the computer side uses 40 buildings, then the human can have 52 - 40 - 5 == 7 extra buildings.

These limits have been play tested quite extensively.

Note that multiplayer maps have a different limiting system. I'll discuss that later when multiplayer is available.

Scott

You have a Treo600? Lucky... All I have is a friggin Zodiac1.

Does the unit category work in the same way as the computer category? Can a player use unused slots of the computers'?

What qualifies as scenery? Everything else? Is galaxite included? Rivers? Roads?

Scenery is the shrubs, bushes and trees only. Rivers and Roads are part of the terrain, which you can have as much of as you want. You can also have as much galaxite as you want.

Just to be clear, is this a DESIGN limit only, or does this also apply during GAMEPLAY.?

Verdagon, could you add this to the FAQ

The game play limit has 3 settings, depending on the handheld. The lowest setting is the same as the design limit, the other two settings are higher.

Playing with the OS5 beta on M2, I created 15 each of the Eagles, Broadswords, and Rocketeers, 41 Guards, and 2 Bullpups for a total of 88 mobile units before the Limit was reached. All enemy units were destroyed at this point (except for one building). Is this limit only for the editor?

The limit I described above is the design limit. It is set here because it is the largest balanced unit allocations that can be created at runtime on certain low-end devices (OS 3.5 devices that are "short" on memory). The limit you hit is the runtime limit of a high end device for the human player. The reason you can't design for the high end is that the level would crash on a low end device because it would run out of memory. For that reason, the only limits that are important to know about during design time are the low-end limits posted above. Let me know if that answers the questions.

Okay, I have new questions, Scott.

I want to limit the number of units, by total and/or by type, that a side can build at one time. I've tried using the condition "Side Owns" to detect when limit is reached, which works just fine. I've then tried to limit further building by turning off the ability to build that unit. That causes problems, even crashes if all units are turned off and the player tries to tap on the (blank) order area too often.

One problem (other than crashing) is this: Say I limit total units to 20. I then build 18 units. After they are all built, I then order 20 more. As soon as the first two are built, the order screens goes blank, but the units are still built.

I now have 40 units, instead of my design limit of 20.

Any suggestion?
